Greybeard's "Gingerbread"

the day was made of gingerbread

smelling ardorous ..... she smelled the soil expectantly
ripe, heavy laden fruit trees despoiled of space
the wet thick air condensed about her
choking, sobbing ... crying for breath
she freed the terrain...
she freed the wind......
she freed the fire.......
she freed the water...
as the elements floated freely
the meager offering of life set forth
omniscient life a sweet tooth for decay
in that moment the taste began
bittersweet and unending
sensation complete

gingerbread

The wet, thick air condensed about her,
Weeping against the trees,
Their fruit ripe and heavy in ardorous expectancy;
This day of earth and soil cloyed
With scented gingerbread.
She coaxed a fitful sob from nature's lungs
And caressed its choking cries with gentle chanting:
"Terrain and wind and water, fire,
Be free, and taste of freedom's spice;
Float effortless in elemental space."
The offer, life, no meager gift
Its sweet-toothed omniscience dying
In a moment's rebirth,
Relaxed its unending, bittersweet
Grip
And returned itself
In the understanding
Of sensation.
