The Wheel of the Year

This section of our site is devoted to the holidays that we use to celebrate the changing seasons of the year.  As each special time approaches, we'll post information regarding correspondences, associated herbs, deities, history and special recipes and activities that we use for our celebration.

Harvest Home (Autumn Equinox, c. September 21): A celebration of the culmination of the growing season, and a time to partake in a feast from the earth's bounty and recognize our dependence on the fruits of the harvest. First Harvest (c. August 1): A celebration of the first day of Autumn and the Element of Fire, and a time to recognize and remember the joys of summer and reap the season's first harvest. Midsummer (Summer Solstice, c. June 21): A celebration of the height of Summer, and a time to reconnect with the planetary cycles and rejoice in our connection with all living, green things. Festival of the Rains (c. May 1): A celebration of the first day of Summer and the Element of Water, and a time to recognize the beginning of the rainy (and fruitful) season. Vernal Equinox (Spring Equinox, c. March 21):  A celebration of the return of nature's creatures after winter's hibernation, and a time for new beginnings. Hallows (October 31st/November 1st):  A celebration of the first day of Winter and the Element of Air, and a time to remember and connect with our ancestors and recognize other dimensions of life. Festival of the Seeds (c. February 1):  A celebration of the first day of Spring and the Element of Earth, and a time to initiate planting and the blessing of the seeds. Yule (Winter Solstice, c. December 21): A celebration of the height of Winter, and a time to reflect on the cycle of life through the process of rebirth, regeneration and hibernation.
